Harvesting Skills for Enterprise and Mission
First Fruit aims to establish social businesses which are commercially viable, but which also help to train disadvantaged people in specific skills in a real work environment.
We have a number of projects helping those who are on the way to being job-ready, including:
Natural Harvest Cafe. The cafe is located in a busy health centre in Forest Gate. Reasonably priced refreshments are served to patients visiting the clinic for doctors' consultations, blood tests, checkups etc. Healthy and freshly-prepared sandwiches and cakes are on offer, as well as a wide range of other snacks and drinks.
The cafe is staffed by a full-time manager along with volunteers comprising Just Homes' residents and members of the local community, including those with learning difficulties.
Profits from sales at the cafe go towards supporting the work that Just Homes undertakes with single women and children without recourse to public funds.
